CHILDREN are in for a lot more fun thanks to the opening of a play area.
The refurbished playground is in Dawdon Welfare Park, in Seaham, which was upgraded at a cost of £86,800.
Yesterday, the recreation site, which has been created as part of Seaham Town Council's programme of improvements to children's play areas, was officially opened by the mayor of the town, Councillor Edward Bell,
The development, which has been designed for the use of under 13-year-olds, has been funded by Broseley Homes, which recently constructed the adjacent Hazel Dene Housing development.
Parents and children from the town joined with the mayor for the official opening when Coun Bell cut a ribbon to mark the event.
The contractors which supplied the items for the park, Record Playground Equipment Limited, had an extra treat for those attending, suppying goodie bags for all the youngsters present.
