ONE of Durham's busiest supermarkets is to open an extension next month.
The Tesco Extra store, at Dragonville, is undergoing work to create a first-floor extension.
The first elements, including car care, electrical goods and baby products, will open to shoppers on Monday. The following week, an entertainment section with Homeshop, Cookshop, TV and audio department and enlarged grocery section will be opened.
A formal opening will take place on November 21, when the final departments open, including clothing and toys and sports, two weeks ahead of schedule.
While the building work has been going on, more than 40,000 shoppers a week have been visiting the store.
Store manager Trevor Howe said: "We are delighted customers have chosen to stick by us through the building work. We are working hard to ensure that Durham has a great new-look store with new lines coming in every day, ready for the festive season."
