STAFF from an optician's shop were not afraid to make a spectacle of themselves as they plunged into the North Sea to raise £800 for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Seventeen workers from the Specsavers Store in Redcar took part in the icy dip.
The sponsored event was organised by Specsavers' employees Julie Barton and Gemma Dale.
Ms Barton said: "We have a lot of women in this office and they all feel strongly about this cause.
"Any one of us could need this help in the future and we are happy to do our bit.
"It might take us another day or two to thaw out, mind.''
Specsavers' director Julie Breen said that her staff did not need too much persuading to take a dip, despite the conditions, and that the £800 that was raised for the charity made it worth-while.
She said: "It was absolutely freezing and not for the faint-hearted at all.
"It was a great laugh though and we are happy we did it.''
