SWIMMER Marion Turner is marking the first anniversary of life-saving surgery with a marathon session in her local pool.
On October 27 last year, the 46-year-old had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer and, alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy, her doctors prescribed exercise.
Already a keen horse-rider, she decided to also turn to swimming to keep active, fit and healthy.
Having never swum farther than six lengths, she set herself the challenge of three visits a week to Thirsk swimming pool, increasing the number of lengths she swam each time.
Now, she is managing 40 lengths each visit and, today, she is going even further, swimming a sponsored mile for charity - Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
