A COUNCILLOR went the extra mile for his constituents as he completed a sponsored run to raise money for a new creche.
Councillor David Wilson, who represents the Woodhouse Close area on Wear Valley District Council, raised more than £360 for Auckland Youth and Community Centre.
He completed a 14-mile run along the coast to Almouth, collecting sponsorship from staff and visitors to the centre, visitors to Woodhouse Close Church and other councillors.
The centre has set up a creche for youngsters and Coun Wilson said he decided to raise money for it after hearing about the plans at a meeting.
He said: "I was doing the run anyway and when I heard they needed money, I thought I would do it for them.
"I was at a residents' meeting and people were asking about raising money for it so I thought, I'm doing this run so why don't I try to do something for the estate?"
Scheme co-ordinator Kerry West thanked Coun Wilson for his efforts.
She said: "It was brilliant of him and he raised a lot of money."
