YOUNGSTERS from a Bishop Auckland drama group were given the opportunity to perform live with the backing of some of the region's leading amateur musicians.
The children from the Laurel Drama Group thrilled the audience with their version of The Little Count, which details the life and travels of Polish-born dwarf musician Joseph Boruwlaski.
The performance at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, on Sunday, was enhanced by the music performed by the Cobweb Orchestra, which is made up of leading amateur musicians and supported by The Sage, in Gateshead.
Conductor Andy Jackson said: "This is about bringing a live orchestra to a family audience. Children often hear orchestras through film soundtracks, but hearing them live is another thing altogether.''
The youngsters, who are aged from eight to 14, had already performed their play to audiences in the summer, but the one-off performance brought together their story and music adapted for the production by Mr Jackson.
Sue Kane, from the drama group, said: "We just wanted to give the children this wonderful experience to have a fantastic orchestra playing behind them.''
