WHETHER it be Middlesbrough's ambitious raid on Juventus for Fabrizio Ravanelli, Christian Ziege's controversial departure from the Riverside Stadium or Carling Cup glory in Cardiff - Riverside X includes every tale.

The new book - published by the club and written by the club's press office and official website - looks back on the past ten years at the Riverside Stadium.

In great detail, readers are taken back to the way docklands by the River Tees used to look before the multi-million pound state of the art stadium - the first of its kind in the country - was constructed.

And from there the stories continue. How the build up to Boro's first game at their new home was disrupted when a small kitchen fire caused the sprinkler system to burst into life, how Juninho was received by thousands after his move from Brazil - not to mention the two cup finals and relegation in one year.

Cleverly down the right hand-side of the book, there is a Diary of the Decade, recalling every moment the club was in the news. Whether it be a link in one newspaper with Zinedine Zidane or one of Emerson's disappearing acts - it's there.

The past decade can quite rightly claim to be the most dramatic in the club's history and this new book tried to relive the most intriguing parts inside 210 pages.

If the Bryan Robson era ended in disappointment and frustration in the 2000-01 season, when Terry Venables was infamously called up to act as Houdini in a relegation battle, his time in charge was never shy of excitement.

As well as the relegations and the cup finals - which incidentally ended without silverware - Robson will always be remembered for the way he was able to attract star name after star name to a North-East town not renowned for its beauty nor trophy winning football.

But Ravanelli, Juninho, Emerson, Ziege, Boksic, Merson and Gascoigne are just a few of the long line of players Robson was able to attract and Riverside X recalls every one.

It also makes reference to the more recent and more glorious past.

How the first major trophy in the club's 127-year history was won - the Carling Cup - by beating Bolton at the Millennium Stadium in February 2004.

And how Boro secured that record seventh place finish in the Premiership on the last day of last season when goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer saved a Robbie Fowler penalty in injury time at Manchester City.

Steve McClaren is currently guiding the Teessiders through their second successive UEFA Cup campaign and that mere fact was unheard of at the start of this Millennium.

A fantastic in-depth statistics section also offers the Boro anorak the chance to examine what went right and wrong during those ten years - in fact any Boro fan could do a lot worse than ask for one of these for Christmas.

* Stewart Downing and Tony McMahon will be centre of attention today when they will be signing copies of Riverside X.

The duo will take time out from their rehabilitation from injury to hold a signing session in the MFC Retail store, Captain Cook Square, Middlesbrough, from 4pm to 5pm.
