STAFF at a north Durham supermarket gritted their teeth and had their bodies waxed for charity.
Five employees of Somerfield, in Hetton-le-Hole, on Saturday undertook the challenge to raise money for children's charity the Butterwick Hospice.
Manager Neil Gray, Gary Johnson, John Francis and Darren Jarvis had their legs waxed while John Garrity had his chest hair removed.
Supervisor Hannah Wardle, 21, said the event was part of ongoing fundraising to help the store's adopted charity.
She said: "The rest were a bit afraid after they saw what happened to Neil. He pulled a few funny facial expressions.
"But it went really well and lots of customers came to see what was happening."
Staff will next entertain shoppers when they don fancy dress on Saturday and next Monday for Halloween.
