PEOPLE wishing to dispose of household waste while the Darlington tip is closed are being reminded that they can use two other sites.
The tip, in Whessoe Road, has shut for a £750,000 upgrade, including extension work and security.
It is hoped the work will reduce congestion on Whessoe Road, caused by cars queuing to get into the site, as well as make recycling easier.
While the tip is closed, people are being urged to keep as much rubbish as they can.
But arrangements have been made with Durham County Council and North Yorkshire County Council for people needing a tip.
The household waste recycling centre in Heighington Lane, Newton Aycliffe, and the centre in Gatherley Road, Catterick, North Yorkshire, will both be open for Darlington residents.
Trailers and vans are banned from the Newton Aycliffe site but all vehicles are welcome at Catterick.
Trade waste is banned at both sites.
Once the Darlington tip has reopened, it will provide facilities to sort and recycle green waste, timber, cardboard, material, bric-a-brac, gas bottles, glass, paper, tyres and soil.
For more information on the temporary closure, telephone (01325) 388799.
