A SHOPPING centre was transformed into a colourful art workshop as residents gathered to create a giant mural.
About 30 people took part in Bishop Auckland's contribution to The Big Draw, a national campaign aimed at encouraging people to explore and celebrate the joys of drawing.
Shoppers swapped their heavy bags for paintbrushes to help volunteers from the Grosvenor Artists Collective create the self portrait at the former Bo-Peep store in the Newgate Centre.
Organiser James Lowther said: "There were groups of kids coming in and working away.
"They really enjoyed themselves.
"Adults joined in as well. The walls and the floors in the shop are covered. We are not sure yet where it will be displayed. It was a really good day."
