A MEMORIAL to footballing legend Brian Clough is moving a step closer through the auction of caricatures of Boro players.
A statue remembering the 69-year-old, who died of stomach cancer last year, is to be erected in the town's Albert Park, near to his birthplace and beloved Ayresome Park.
More than £20,000 has been raised so far, and the auction, which ends today, is expected to add to those funds.
Alistair Brownlee and former Boro striker Bernie Slaven, of Century FM, recently visited Hillstreet shopping centre in Middlesbrough to encourage bids on the caricatures, which had reached a total of £1,536.60.
Bids for the pictures, of players such as Colin Cooper and manager Steve McClaren, can be made by visiting the Hillstreet centre or logging on to the website at www.hill streetshopping.co.uk
