AN area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) has money available to make it even more attractive.
The Nidderdale AONB, which extends north of Masham, near Ripon, to the northern borders of Leeds, is operating three grant schemes for which money could be available.
One initiative promotes the repair of listed buildings or traditional structures in conservation areas. Local landmarks contributing to the area can also attract grants.
Meanwhile, projects costing less than £5,000, which would help to conserve the area's natural beauty, are also under way.
Cash can be available where projects help to protect the landscape, improve wildlife and preserve the rural character, including tree belts.
A spokesman for the AONB, based at Pateley Bridge, said a new scheme was supporting sustainable projects. To qualify for grants, they must bring benefits to communities within the AONB.
This funding can support community transport projects, green waste recycling, renewable energy developments, tourism and environmental festivals.
The spokesman said: "Securing and distributing money in the Nidderdale AONB is a very important role for the team and joint advisory committee."
A Friends of the AONB group has been established and has recruited nearly 100 members.
