A POET and musician teamed up to present an arts workshop for youngsters at a village primary school yesterday.
Poet Ian McMillan presented some of his humorous verses and tales to an appreciative audience of nine to 11-year-olds at Kelloe Community Primary School, near Durham.
The comedian and poet encouraged some of the pupils to try their hand at putting together their own compositions.
Mr McMillan, dubbed Barnsley FC's poet-in-residence, also presents poetry-based programmes on both Channel 5 and BBC Radio 3.
He was backed by musician Luke Carver Goss, on accordion, as they teamed up for their double act, Flip Chart and Squeeze Box.
Headteacher Carol Musztacs said: "Everyone has been excited about the visit, as it supports all of the work we are currently doing around creativity and the arts."
Mr McMillan's visit was part of Durham Literature Festival, prior to his appearance at St Nicholas Church, in the city's Market Place, last night.
General Sir Peter de la Billiere, who commanded British forces in the first Gulf War, talks of his experiences in the latest event on the festival programme, in Durham, tonight.
He will be speaking at the Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, at 7.30pm. Tickets, costing £6 and £4, can be booked by ringing the festival box office, on 0191-332 4041.
