POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was threatened with a snooker cue and forced to hand over money.
The incident occurred in Rosemount Road, South Church, Bishop Auckland, at about 1pm on Saturday.
The 18-year-old victim was on his way to a friend's house when he became aware he was being followed, initially from McCullagh Gardens then past St Andrew's Church and along St Andrew's Road.
On several occasions, the teenager paused to give the other man an opportunity to walk ahead, but his pursuer held back and kept his distance.
When the victim then walked into Rosemount Road, his pursuer caught up with him and produced a half-length snooker cue from his clothing.
The man threatened the victim with it and demanded cash. He handed over a few pounds which the robber grabbed before heading off back up St Andrew's Road.
He was white, about 6ft and wearing a black cap, a pale blue zip-up tracksuit top, jeans and white trainers.
Anyone who might have seen the incident or saw the pair walking is asked to call PC Lonsdale on 0845 6060 365, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
