DETECTIVES charged a 49-year-old man today in connection with the infamous Ripper hoaxer Wearside Jack.
John Humble, from Sunderland, will appear before magistrates in Leeds this afternoon charged with perverting the course of justice following a breakthrough in the hunt for the hoaxer behind the notorious Yorkshire Ripper tape.
Mr Humble was arrested on Tuesday night at his home in Flodden Road accused of sending the tape and letters 27 years ago. They fooled police into believing the Yorkshire Ripper was from the Castletown area of Sunderland.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "A 49-year-old man from the Ford Estate in Sunderland has now been charged with perverting the course of justice.
"He will appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court today at 2pm."
