A HARDY bunch of walkers will set off tomorrow to raise funds to replace a bus used by a city's Shopmobility scheme.
The existing 14-seater wheelchair-accessible vehicle, which transports disabled people to events in the Durham area, requires extensive repairs.
Shopmobility staff and volunteers have decided it would be more cost-effective to buy a second-hand replacement.
Driver Janet Greaves will be joined by Shopmobility project co-ordinator Tracey Wilson, her mother Carol Harper, and possibly other volunteer walkers on a seven-mile trek from Durham to Chester-le-Street market places.
They plan to leave from the Londonderry statue, in Durham Market Place, and take about three hours on a gentle stroll, via Framwellgate Moor and the A167, down Front Street to the Burns area of Chester-le-Street.
All sponsorship contributions would be welcome as they attempt to raise at least £10,000.
Anyone willing to make a donation can ring the Shopmobility office, on 0191-386 8556.
