POLICE have issued a warning that people who flout firework laws face an £80 fine.
With Bonfire Night rapidly approaching, officers will be keeping a watchful eye on the Stockton skyline, looking for late night rockets.
Sergeant Colin Whitfield, of Stockton Police, said: "It is an offence to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am - even in your own garden.
"The only exceptions are religious holidays, Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve. It is also illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess a firework in a public place.
"Last week residents of Rimswell and Fairfield areas were subjected to a barrage of fireworks being set off at a birthday party, with the noise continuing until after 1am.
"Police received half a dozen complaints and, as a result, a man was issued with an £80 notice for the offence."
Officers will also be on the look out for dangerous bonfires.
Inspector Ciaron Irvine said: "While many bonfires are controlled, family affairs, many are lit in inappropriate and dangerous places.
"We will be carrying out high profile patrols in the run-up to November 5, and we will deal firmly with any incidents of anti-social behaviour to provide a safe and secure environment for local residents."
