PUPILS from schools across Darlington will get a taste of political life today in an event for Local Democracy Week.
Every primary school in the town will send two children and a teacher to take part in a Darlington Borough Council lifelong learning scrutiny committee meeting in the council chamber and everyone will be given a chance to speak.
A video will be shown, made by children in Darlington through the town's youth service and a discussion on out-of-school activities will take place.
The pupils will be invited to a reception with the Mayor, Councillor Stella Robson, before the meeting and will each be given a certificate.
Councillor Cyndi Hughes said: "I believe that one of the most important jobs that we councillors have is to listen to the wider community - and that includes young people."
