BLOOMING GOOD: Redcar and Cleveland borough Council's Mayor, Councillor Peter Spencer, is to host a civic reception in recognition of the community work across the borough, with six entries in the Northumbria in Bloom competition. An added success came with Saltburn's silver medal in Britain in Bloom. All will be officially recognised in the Mayor's Parlour, at Eston Town Hall, later this year, with a date to be announced.
AUTUMN DANCE: The Friends of Redcar's Ann Charlton Lodge for people with multiple sclerosis are holding an autumn dance at the Marton Hotel and Country Club on Wednesday, between 8pm and midnight. Tickets , priced £6.50 for the event, with refreshments, tombola, a raffle and dancing to the Granada Band, are available from (01642) 591162 or 486937.
BATTLE REMEMBERED: A memorial service will be held next weekend to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. The Zetland Committee has organised the event to mark Redcar's old lifeboat, Zetland, which was in active service during the battle. The historic craft is now on show in her boathouse at Redcar. The service will be at St Peter's Church, Redcar Lane, Redcar, at 2.30pm on Sunday.
