A MOVIE star has helped pupils to take the first steps into performance - creating a CD of poetry recitals.
Leslie Simpson, star of the successful film Dog Soldiers, worked with youngsters from Bowesfield and St Cuthbert's primary schools, in Stockton, Teesside, during an after-school writing club.
More than 18 children from both schools attended each week to show off their talents in various activities taught by local writer Dougy Pincott and Mr Simpson.
At the end of the workshop, a CD was produced to showcase their talents.
The club was co-ordinated by Vikki Turner, a community worker funded by the Parkfield/Mill Lane neighbourhood management programme.
Mr Simpson was impressed by the children's work and said: "The students were a delight to work with and they made me look good.
"Supported by the enthusiasm of Vikki Turner, this project was one of the workshop highlights of my year. The future of the arts is assured if this group of young people is anything to go by."
The children are also hoping to recite their poems at a live performance in the near future.
