A FAMILY that is making a name for itself in rugby circles has had a competition named after it.
Twelve teams from around the area will compete in the Tait 10s, a new tournament being run by Barnard Castle School, in County Durham.
The competition has been named after brothers Mathew, Alex and Finlay Tait, who are all keen rugby players with promising futures.
Mathew, 19, holds the record as the youngest player to represent England in the Six Nations.
As well as being capped for England, he is part of the core group of England Rugby Sevens players and is a first-team player with Newcastle Falcons.
Alex, 17, is the first-team captain at Barnard Castle School and is a member of the Falcons Academy and an England under 18s player.
The youngest, Finlay, 11, is also showing great promise on the rugby field and will play in the tournament, which is being held from 11.30am on Sunday.
The 12 ten-man sides will play five games each, the winners going through to the final. They will vie for the Tait Cup and Plate.
Barnard Castle rugby master Martin Pepper said: "We wanted to provide something different for young children in the area and give them the chance to play and have some fun. We did not run any competitions and thought it would be a nice idea to start one.
"The Taits started playing rugby at a young age and are all doing extremely well, so it seemed a good idea to name the tournament after them."
