AN £18,000 refurbishment of part of Darlington Crematorium will start next week.
The Book of Remembrance Hall, at the West Cemetery site, will be closed from Monday until Sunday, November 6, to allow the work to be carried out.
During that time, the books will be on display in the waiting room at the front of the crematorium building. Opening times will be restricted to 9.30am until 4.30pm.
Once the hall has re-opened, there will be automatic folding doors and increased privacy, as a glass area is being replaced with a solid wall.
A new floor and ceiling will be in place, together with improved lighting.
Plans for new digital memorial books are also being considered.
Throughout the refurbishment work, all cremation services will take place at the West Cemetery chapel.
Further information is available from the crematorium office on (01325) 388576.
