THE life of DJ John Peel will be celebrated today as part of a national event commemorating his contribution to music.
Venues across the region will be hosting musical events for Peel Day.
The veteran BBC broadcaster died suddenly last year while on a working holiday in Peru.
Darlington music venue The Forum, in conjunction with Radio 1, is one of the venues taking part.
At the Forum, Club Strut will be presenting a full night of bands and guest DJs bringing together a mix of music.
DJs will be starting in the bar from 5pm, with the first band taking to the stage at 7pm.
Tickets are priced at £5 and are available from The Forum on (01325) 363135.
The celebrations will continue in Stockton at the Georgian Theatre at 7pm. The set will run for 25 minutes and will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Cleveland's Pure show.
Middlesbrough-based Audio Schematics will also feature at the Stockton venue. For tickets, priced £3, call (01642) 860068.
Radio 1 will be broadcasting a six-hour show from 7pm featuring live music from the nationwide gigs.
