A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a serious stabbing.
John David Raper, 36, of Grange Road, Darlington, is due to appear before South Durham magistrates sitting in Newton Aycliffe this morning.
He is alleged to have stabbed a 34-year-old in the neck during a fight, which took place in Grange Road, near Polam Hall School, at about 10.30pm on Sunday.
The victim lost a considerable amount of blood and underwent major surgery at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
However, his condition is now being described as satisfactory and it is hoped he will make a full recovery.
Yesterday, detectives renewed their appeal for information as they remain unclear as to how the fight started.
Detective Inspector Paul Harker, who is leading the investigation, said: "There could have been someone passing, either on foot or in a car, at the time of the incident. It is vital they contact the police."
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Darlington police on 0845 60 60 365.
Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
