IRISH drinks and snacks firm C&C Group yesterday reported a 14 per cent rise in half-year earnings thanks to its expending cider business.
C&C said the performance of Magners cider following its roll-out in greater London had exceeded expectations, while the drink found new fans in its markets of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Despite the cost of an advertising blitz that included sponsorship deals with the London Wasps and Edinburgh rugby clubs, C&C said profits during the six months to August 31 were ten per cent higher to £47m.
Revenues grew by nine per cent to £288.5m on the back of a 28.2 per cent improvement in cider sales.
Chief executive Maurice Pratt said: "This financial performance reflects a better than expected contribution from the group's cider division."
