A TEENAGER who threw a glass into another woman's face during a Christmas Eve night out was spared jail yesterday.
Katie Noble, 19, intended to throw a drink over Claire Maughan but the glass flew out of her hand and hit her victim in the face, leaving her with a 4cm scar on her forehead.
Prosecutors accepted that Noble, of Archer Square, Sunderland, did not intend the glass to hit Miss Maughan's face, in the row at the Colonel Prior pub in Sunderland.
Defence barrister James Adkin told Newcastle Crown Court that Noble was a "gentle, patient, hardworking, respectable young woman" who deeply regretted what happened.
Judge Tony Lancaster said Noble could be spared jail due to her good character and her lack of intent to cause harm.
The judge said; "It appears Miss Maughan decided to confront you about an issue and you reacted to her aggression by throwing the glass at her
"The crown accept your intent was to pour the contents of the glass over her and whether because you used too much force in throwing the contents or because your hand slipped, one does not know."
Noble pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and was sentenced to 200 hours community punishment and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.
