HUNDREDS of children have been invited to take part in a parade marking the 200th anniversary of Admiral Lord Nelson's victory over the French fleet at Trafalgar.
Sunday's event has been organised by the Middesbrough Military Celebratory Association and Middlesbrough Sea Cadets.
The Reverend Stephen Cooper will conduct a service at the cenotaph, in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.
The parade will assemble at 11.15am at the South African War Memorial in the town's Albert Park and set off five minutes later to march the few yards to the cenotaph, led by a band provided by 34 Signals Regiment.
Lord Crathorne, the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, is attending the ceremony together with the mayors of Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton and Thornaby, who will all take the salute.
There will be standard bearers and veterans from ex-forces associations.
Sea Cadets from Middlesbrough, Stockton, Guisborough, Hartlepool and Seaham will take part in the parade with army and air training corps cadets, Brownies, Guides, Scouts and schoolchildren.
The Battle of Trafalgar Parade also begins Sea Cadet Week when TS Marlborough cadets will host a week of events and visits to mark the first such celebration in Middlesbrough.
Anyone interested in joining the parade and service is asked to contact (01642) 507035.
