A PARK is to undergo a £104,000 facelift.
Craghead Community Park, near Stanley, is to get a £50,000 ball court with goalposts, basketball hoops and cricket stumps.
Plans are also under way to install a £30,000 toddlers' play park and carry out access and environmental improvements.
Community organisation the Craghead Development Trust will be working with environmental charity Groundwork West Durham, Barclays and the Football Foundation to provide the multi-use games area.
The project will work to ensure long-term activities are available and provide coaching kit and equipment to encourage residents to make the most of the facilities.
Project manager Kath Ivens, of Groundwork, said: "Our experience shows that people really value the opportunity to have a say in improving their neighbourhoods and make them better places to live, work and play. Getting involved in these projects gives people confidence and makes us all feel proud of where we live."
The scheme is being funded with cash from the European Regional Development Fund and Barclays Spaces for Sports, a community sponsorship programme to create and improve sports facilities.
