SPECIAL bins for discarded chewing gum are being erected in a new clampdown.
And if the action does not bring results, Harrogate Borough Council has warned that on-the-spot fines will follow.
The bins are going up in the town centres of Harrogate, Boroughbridge, Pateley Bridge and Ripon.
The sticky problem brings hundreds of complaints every year to the council, which has already bought a gum buster costing £20,000 to clear up the ever-growing mess.
Pupils from Harrogate Granby High, Nidderdale High at Pateley Bridge, Ripon Grammar and Boroughbridge High will be launching the anti-gum initiative at chewing gum hot spots and new gum bins on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
Cambridge Street, Harrogate, High Street, Pateley Bridge, and Ripon Market Place have been chosen as key hot spots.
