A NUMBER of bus services are being axed on Teesside because of a decline in passengers.
Stagecoach is withdrawing its service 24, which runs from Middlesbrough town centre to Trimdon Avenue; the X36, which travels between Stockton and Hartlepool; the 68, which links Roseworth to Low Grange, Billingham; and most journeys on the 39, Stockton centre to Portrack.
Evening and Sunday services on routes 38 and 38A, 58 and 61, serving areas of Stockton, will also be withdrawn from Sunday.
A spokeswoman for the bus company said the moves reflect changes in travel patterns, against a backdrop of worsening traffic conditions.
She added: "Sadly we cannot continue to operate these services. Over the past few months, we have been liaising closely with local councils and discussing our plans with them.''
