MARTIN Scott believes it's no suprise to see Neill Collins earn international honours.
The big defender is on loan at Hartlepool United from Sunderland and is in line for an appearance for Scotland under 21s tonight against Belarus,
Collins has been part of a Pool defence that has kept back-to- back clean sheets and Scott believes his understanding with Micky Nelson in the middle of his back four is impressive.
"They are getting better and better each game," said Scott.
"Nelson and Chris Westwood had a really great partnership for us for two years.
"But Michael and Neill are beginning to show now that they are becoming a good pairing.
"What we now know is that Neill is a winner. He points a finger and he's not frightened to have a go, whether it's on the pitch, the dressing room or training ground.
"You can now see why Mick McCarthy rates him so highly. Neill is here on a six-month loan and a decision will have to be made whether they will allow him to stay for longer.
"I know Neill is enjoying it here. He is learning with us and playing regular football. He is away with his country this week and that can only help him.''
Scott added: "He and the defence have had two magnificent performances last week and as I've said before, if you keep clean sheets you have a great chance of winning.
"We've had two in a row now and we've got something to build on when we resume after the international break.
"That win at Bristol City on Saturday was a massive boost for us. Our away form has been good and now we've got to look to get it going at home too."
