A MAN suspected of leaving a service station with someone else's wallet is being sought by police.
Officers are appealing for help in finding a man, thought to be in his 30s, in connection with the incident at the Red Tiles Service Station, in Witton Gilbert, near Durham City.
At about 7am on Friday, July 1, a customer paid for goods at the service station, but left his wallet on the counter.
Moments later, a female shop assistant mistakenly handed the wallet to a second customer on the forecourt, believing it was his.
The man in question, said to be of stocky build with blond hair, took the wallet and drove off in his white van, which had ladders on the roof.
The case of mistaken identity only came to light after he had left the forecourt.
Police would like to speak to the driver, who at the time of the incident was wearing a dark blue shirt with a logo on the left side of the chest.
Anyone with information is asked to ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
