THE largest secondary school in Darlington is pressing ahead with its anniversary celebrations.
The former Darlington Girls' High School was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in November 1955, after moving to Edinburgh Drive from Cleveland Avenue.
It was replaced by Hummersknott School in September 1968, when it became co-educational.
Now Hummersknott School and Language College is celebrating the 50th anniversary and former pupils have already made a significant contribution.
They have been donating photographs, reports and other memorabilia for an exhibition to run from November 12 to 20.
Guided tours of the school are at 2pm on November 12 and at 2pm and 6.30pm from November 13 to 18. There will also be 2pm tours on November 19 and 20.
Other events include a gig by the Smokin' Spitfires, a pie and pea supper, and a dinner on November 19, with music by The Fourum.
Headteacher Pat Howarth said: "We have put together a packed programme of events to ensure everyone who has been part of the school will have the chance to share in the occasion."
