A MOTHER has found her vocation in life as a bus driver.
Kathleen Bianchi, from Houghton-le-Spring, Wearside, had always dreamed of a career as a driver, but did not have the courage to take the next step.
After returning from the Scottish Borders with her husband and 12-year-old daughter, Kathleen, she took a job in Social Services, but realised it was not a long-term career.
The 36-year-old saw an advert for a Go North East open day at the Gateshead MetroCentre and has not looked back. She now works full-time at the company's Chester-le-Street depot.
She said: "I am absolutely delighted with my decision to go to the open day.
"Any reservations I may have had were quickly laid to rest and, after trying my hand at driving a single, double and bendy bus, I knew it was the job for me.
"As a woman, driving a vehicle this size is quite liberating, and after only one session, you can't wait to get back behind the wheel.
"I have been touched by the support I have received from the male drivers, despite being a woman. The instructors and mentors are great too, and have made the whole process a pleasure."
Keith Robertson, recruitment co-ordinator at Go North East, said: "It is always refreshing to meet someone with such enthusiasm for the job."
