PUPILS at a North-East school have embraced the healthy eating message - to the delight of staff.
Abbey Infants School, in Darlington, has been serving healthier meals for the past 18 months after a consultation exercise with parents and the borough council.
Headteacher Elaine McCue said yesterday there had been a lot of interest in the healthy option.
Parents are informed in advance of the two dishes offered to their children each day, so they can encourage them to make healthy choices.
Mrs McCue said: "We have always had a good uptake of school meals, but since we changed the menus even more, children are eating school meals.
"We are proof that schools can offer healthy meals that are popular with both pupils and parents."
