COUNCIL officials are analysing the results of a survey aimed at tackling the problems of Darlington's crumbling roads and pavements.
The borough council has pledged an extra £2.5m to deal with the issue and had been asking for residents' opinions on the best areas of town to invest the money.
A report to the council's transport forum, which meets on Monday, says almost 1,000 responses have been received.
Environment director John Buxton said: "To date, we have received 940 written responses and 43 via the council website.
"Approximately 400 streets have been mentioned, with the identified area ranging from an isolated location to the entire street.
"Similarly, some respondents have mentioned defects such as some uneven flags, some have mentioned a full range of problems and some have also added other specific comments.
"With well over 300 miles of roads and 350 miles of footpaths, it is very unlikely that all the suggested repairs can be carried out.
"The next step in the process is the analysis of the responses and this has just started."
