A £1m sports facility has been opened in Houghton-le-Spring, Wearside.
Local MP Fraser Kemp officiated at the opening of the centre, at Houghton Kepier School, on Friday.
The building, which features PE teaching rooms, changing rooms, a community meeting room and fully-equipped cardiovascular fitness suite will be used by pupils and the wider community.
The school was awarded specialist sports college status in 2003.
Headteacher Sue Hyland said: "We are delighted with the new facilities and feel sure this will be a major factor in raising standards in PE and sport as well as increasing participation for all."
