CURIOUS audience members will get a chance to glimpse behind the scenes at a North-East theatre this week.
Sunderland's Royalty Theatre is opening to anyone who wants a guided tour, or would like to test themselves on the sound or lighting system or help build a set.
At the open evening, on Friday, there will also be a series of informal auditions for those wanting to try their acting skills.
Members of the theatre's executive committee will be available to answer questions or offer advice.
Pauline Craig, chairwoman of the theatre, said: "We have thought for some time that we should let people have a peek behind the scenes to see what goes on.
"Audience members may not realise the technical challenges involved in getting a show onto the stage, so this is a chance to find out.
"It is also an opportunity to get involved if you have some spare time and want to be part of the set up.
"More volunteers are always welcome to do the vital off-stage tasks. We are hoping there might be one or two builders, joiners or electricians out there who fancy doing something a bit more dramatic."
The event starts at 7.30pm and anyone wanting more details can ring the theatre, just off Chester Road in the city, on 0191-567 2669 or Reynold's Outdoor Centre on 0191-565 7945, which doubles as a booking office.
The Royalty celebrates its 80th anniversary this year and has just opened its new season with a successful week-long run of Jack Sharkey's mystery farce The Murder Room.
The next production is Therese Raquin, from October 31 to November 5.
