PLANS to switch the date of an agricultural show have been criticised by police.
Bosses of Malton Show have suggested changing the traditional show day of Thursday to a Sunday with the aim of increasing the attendance.
But Ryedale police commander, Inspector Neil Burnett, told a meeting of the Malton rural east community police group, at Sherburn, that the move would cause chaos.
"We are very concerned about the idea because the A64 just couldn't cope with that volume of traffic on a Sunday in June," he said.
The meeting heard that Rillington Parish Council was also against the change.
Insp Burnett also appealed for volunteers to man security cameras in Malton and Pickering as part of a scheme to improve surveillance.
