SIX intrepid bikers put their pedal power to the test cycling from Stockton to RAF Leeming in memory of their colleague and friend Dave Lincoln.
The team from the Meteorological (Met) Office at Leeming, which advises the RAF on the weather conditions for flying, did the 32-mile trek in about three hours to raise funds for the unit that cared for Mr Lincoln, who died aged 32.
The cash went to the neurosurgery ward 24 at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, which looks after patients with illnesses and injuries of the brain and spinal cord.
The group wanted to do something to thank ward staff for caring for Mr Lincoln and to benefit future patients.
They raised more than £1,280 through sponsorship and the generosity of family and friends who gave donations instead of flowers at the funeral.
Ward sister Sam Weaver said: "We would like to thank the bikers and everyone who helped make this donation possible. We will be using the money to buy equipment for the benefit and comfort of future patients."
