THREE teenagers have won places on the region's first gas mains apprenticeship scheme in a decade.
Jonathan Hunter, Dominic Price and Steven McGlasson are among 17 youngsters taken on by gas firm United Utilities this month.
The company operates the region's 36,000km network of mains on behalf of owners Northern Gas Networks.
After three weeks of health and safety training, the three apprentices, all from Cleveland, will join engineering teams based at Wear Street, in Spennymoor, south Durham.
Jonathan, 17, of Yarm, and Steven, 17, of Redcar, will specialise in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
Dominic, 19, of Great Ayton, will join the team of engineers which maintains and operates equipment like pressure regulators and gas holders.
