SCHOOLCHILDREN did their bit yesterday to help make a charity coffee morning a massive success.
North Road Primary School, in Darlington, was one of several places across the town to take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, held to raise vital money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Children and parents joined forces for the event, baking cakes to be sold in school and bringing in donations to help raise their £300 total.
The Friends of North Road group, who organised the event, hailed it as a "really big success".
Michelle Thompson, who lost her 18-year-old sister Jeanette to cancer, and has also beaten the disease, said Macmillan Cancer Relief was a cause close to everyone's hearts.
"There are children at the school who know someone with cancer at the moment or someone who has had cancer in the past," she said. "It really is something everyone can relate to - I definitely can.
"But the coffee morning was really good fun, we're all so pleased with how it went. All the children were really keen to get involved, and some parents baked cakes and biscuits.
"It was a really good day and everyone who took part deserves a big pat on the back."
