A SPECIAL school in North Yorkshire is celebrating a new-look sensory garden.
The garden at the Dales School at Morton-on-Swale near Northallerton now has an improved pond, paving to provide year-round access, improved planting, raised beds for better wheelchair access and a covered seating area.
The area was redesigned and rebuilt by Simon Cross from local charity Northdale Horticulture of gardeners from the charity.
Also taking part were trainees from a new service called Just the Job, which provides employment for adults with a learning disability in the Richmondshire area.
The redevelopment of the garden was made possible by the efforts of Liz Gunning and Moira Mason, who work for the Yorkshire Building Society in Richmond.
They raised £2,000 by completing the Great North Run, and more cash came from the building society's charitable fund.
Headteacher Hanna Barton said: "I am delighted with the improvements to the sensory garden."
