THE swinging Sixties were brought back to life for a new generation yesterday as a school celebrated its birthday.
Teachers and pupils at Abbey Infant School ditched their usual school wear for flares and flowers to mark the school's 40th birthday.
The school opened on September 29, 1965, and during the week, pupils who attended the school in the 1960s have been talking to current pupils and about life 40 years ago.
Staff found newspaper cuttings and photographs from the opening, so the children have been able to see how things have changed.
A birthday party was held yesterday afternoon with games, birthday cakes and a 1960s disco. After pupils went home, there was a celebration for any adults who have had a connection with the school in the past four decades - including former staff.
Headteacher Elaine McCue said: "It has been wonderful to celebrate the 40th birthday of the school with the children.
"It has also been great to see friends and colleagues from the past."
