A GYM for people with disabilities will be opened in Chester-le-Street today.
The facility at the town's leisure centre - now an accredited Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) site - will be opened by North-East disabilities campaigner Desi Gillespie.
There are only eight other IFI accredited gyms in the region and the initiative aims to increase opportunities for sport conditioning and training for disabled people.
Improvements at the gym include a range of cardio vascular equipment, a stair-lift, re-marked disabled parking bays and accessible doorways.
All instructors have been trained to YMCA level 3 standard, while all staff have been trained in disability awareness to YMCA level 1 standard.
