COUNCIL officials last night confirmed the date for the temporary closure of Darlington's main waste recycling centre.
The tip, off Whessoe Road, will close on Sunday, October 16, for six weeks to allow work to start on a number of improvements.
The project has received £750,000 from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Work will include security measures such as lighting, the installation of larger skips, ramps and buildings for on-site staff.
Once it has reopened, the centre will provide facilities to sort and recycle green waste, timber, cardboard, material, bric-a-brac, gas bottles, glass, paper, tyres and soil. Trade waste will still be banned.
A council spokeswoman said residents should continue to use the tip until its closure in two weeks.
