A TEENAGER from West Cornforth has answered local pleas to give young people something better to do than hang around the streets.
Shane Parkins has organised a rave for 13 to 17-year-olds on Friday, in response to calls from local teenagers for evening entertainment.
He also hopes the event will improve relations with older village residents, who don't like to see young people congregating on the streets.
The 15-year-old, a pupil at Hurworth House School, in Darlington, said: "Young people were saying they want to do something on a night and I know similar raves have been popular elsewhere.
"It will be supervised by licensed doormen and everyone involved has been really supportive, especially workers at Cornforth House."
Shane will be the DJ at the event, in West Cornforth Community Centre, from 7 to 10pm.
