A GROUP of young people held a sponsored walk to raise £100 for children in Africa.
The teenagers, based at Herrington Burn YMCA, walked from Marsden Grotto to the mouth of the Tyne.
Main organiser Steph Coonan, 17, of Doxford Park, is one of six people on the centre's e2e programme, which works with school leavers to boost skills.
She said: "The programme encourages us to use our initiative and, after seeing pictures of young people in Africa on the TV, I thought it would be great to do something that could help."
Others walkers were Kirsty Wright, 17, from Herrington Burn; Michael Cane, 17, from Hall Lane; twins Jade and Faye Carter, 18, from Washington and Katleho Mosebi, 17, from Herrington Burn.
