THE director of public health for Hambleton and Richmondshire launched his annual report for 2004/2005 last night.
The area's primary care trust held its third annual meeting, at Tennants Auctioneers, Leyburn, when Dr Phil Kirby, director of public health introduced his annual report, called Choosing Health - making healthy choices easier.
The reports shows that rates of heart disease and cancer are lower than the national average and falling, but highlights issues such as smoking, sedentary lifestyles and rising obesity as a threat to these trends.
Dr Kirby said: "Good progress has been made locally over the past year in respect of progress on introducing smoke-free public places and we are beginning to make progress on other key lifestyle issues."
