OPTICIANS in the North-East will be supporting the fight against breast cancer next month by getting pretty in pink.
Branches of Specsavers throughout the region will be selling a range of pink merchandise for the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer, including exclusive limited edition rose-tinted glasses.
Pink pin badges and wristbands will also be on sale throughout October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - for a suggested donation of £1 each.
The rose-tinted glasses, which come in a pink case and cleaning cloth featuring the Breakthrough logo - cost £10 each.
Specsavers branches in Darlington, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Peterlee, Redcar and Stockton are taking part in the campaign.
Darlington branch director Gery Learmont says: "We are delighted to be working with Breakthrough. This is a great way for people living in the North-East to pick up a new pair of trendy pink shades, while raising funds for a great cause.
"More than 1,000 women die of breast cancer every month in the UK and each year thousands of families lose mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, wives, friends and partners to this devastating disease."
Kate Bernstein, from Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: "We are thrilled that our Specsavers stores in the North-East have chosen to work with Breakthrough Breast Cancer."
